I am (trying) to keep my attention focused on the moments of this vacation. But in moments of weakness, I find myself checking the news. LA is on fire. Trump blabbers insane things (we’re going to war for…Greenland?). And I’m reminded of the wonderful aphorism by Koos Van Zomeren:

Whatever happens, there will always be people who say: It’s all completely awful, and others who say: It’s all a complete joke.

It more or less describes American citizens right now.

Time to retreat to a hammock and a beach.

I didn’t really know Sarah until January. We both had vague memories of our time in Brazil 30 years ago (“You always had a backpack” she would remember, which sounds about right. “You were tall and loved to dance” I would remember.
