I try and hit the sack between 10:00 and 10:30 every night. Around 4:00 or 4:30 my body starts to gear up for the wakeup alarm (indeed, it barely needs an alarm anymore). This means waking up a bit, turning over, falling back to sleep, grabbing a drink of water, kicking the dog off the bed, etc. 5:45 roles around and I’m ready for the coffee.

At least that’s how it used to go.

This job as Director of Technology is big. The back of my brain is constantly chewing over problems, what ifs, future visions, conflicts and resolutions, action items and plans.

And I really suck at turning that off.

Part of me doesn’t want to. I love the work and the challenges. I like to think that I’m good at what I do and actively getting better every day.

Part of me just wants to yell at my brain to shut up so I can grab an extra hour and half of sleep.
